Created as part of the defenses of Mobile Bay in the early 1800s, Fort Morgan stood as an important fort and artillery post until after World War II. Today, the community is a top tourism attraction along the Gulf Coast that’s nestled between the Gulf of Mexico and Mobile Bay. This 22-mile stretch of coastal frontline is set apart from Gulf Shores and Orange Beach because of its historic attraction and incredible natural landscape, not to mention less construction per acre which makes it a much quieter location to live and explore.

Fort Morgan is home to the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge, which covers almost 7,000 acres and  was set up to be a refuge for migratory birds that travel south in the fall and north in the spring. Also protected at the refuge are endangered species such as loggerhead sea turtles and the Alabama beach mouse. Thanks to the refuge’s extensive trail system, visitors can hike through the area to observe the varieties of wildlife.

Fort Morgan offers many single family residences, but it also features unique condo properties such as the Beach Club Resort, Gulf Shores Plantation, the Peninsula, Kiva Dunes Golf and Beach Resort, and Martinique on the Gulf. Because the area is nestled between the Gulf and the Bay, many of its properties are waterfront.

Boasting three separate golf courses—boasting 63 holes of golf in all—Fort Morgan is the ideal spot for a golfing vacation, as well as visitors looking for a more natural experience. The area is a haven for wildlife as it’s home to the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge. Nearly 7,000 acres of the Fort Peninsula comprise the wildlife habitat of Bon Secour, which translates to “safe harbor” in French. The refuse serves as a resting and feeding area for birds during migration after (or before) the long stretch of flying over the Gulf of Mexico. Other protected species at the refuge include loggerhead sea turtles and the Alabama beach mouse. The area features an extensive trail system that visitors can hike and explore.
